The Hunter Branch Rail Trail

Accessibility in Action

On the western end of the HRT lies the Hunter Branch Rail Trail (HBRT).  Opened in 2023, The HBRT is planned to be transformed into an ADA-compliant path that invites people of all abilities to explore nature and history together. Built along a historic railbed, the HBRT will stretch from Clove road and Luke’s Bridge to the site of Camp Jened, the birthplace of the national disability rights movement.

Thanks to a $180,000 grant from Senator Michelle Hinchey, we’ve completed engineering plans and secured necessary permits to make our model for an accessible trail a reality. The final hurdle: funding construction. With a $1 million goal and a federal grant opportunity in reach, your support is more vital than ever.

“We can absolutely build a trail that honors the legacy of Camp Jened which serves everyone.”

Sean Mahoney, Town of Hunter Supervisor
