BURN BAN EXPIRES 12:00PM SEPTEMBER 5TH

Update: 11:00am September 5th. As of 12:00pm today, September 5th; The local state of emergency and burn ban in the Town of Hunter will expire and will NOT be renewed. We are very thankful for the rain that has fallen and is forecasted to continue. I would also like to thank all of our residents and visitors for your ongoing cooperation and understanding during this time.

Update 3:00pm August 31st. This burn ban is applicable to any outdoor fire / flame in the Town of Hunter including ALL issued DEC permits for burning and any outdoor campfires, fire pits, fireplaces, brush fires. Please do not burn anything outdoors at this time.

TOWN OF HUNTER EMERGENCY ORDER NO. 2022-01

WHEREAS, the Town of Hunter Supervisor hereby finds that circumstances present within the Town of Hunter create a public safety hazard that would be exacerbated by outdoor burning; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Hunter Supervisor heretofore has declared a State of Emergency effective August 31, 2022 at 12:00 p.m., declaring that a state of emergency exists throughout the Town of Hunter due to severe drought conditions and the threat of wildfires caused by outdoor burning, and its imminent threat to the health and welfare of Town of Hunter citizens; and

WHEREAS, the Executive Order, in accordance with Section 24 of the New York State Executive Law, authorizes political subdivisions to take whatever prudent action that is necessary to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the community; and

WHEREAS, Section 24 of the New York State Executive Law authorizes political subdivisions to take all necessary action and issue any necessary orders to protect human life; and

NOW, THEREFORE, it is ORDERED that outdoor burning is prohibited in all of the Town of Hunter as follows:

  1. Actions prohibited:
  2. A person violates this order if he/she burns any combustible material in an outdoor area.
  3. A person violates this order if he/she engages in any outdoor activity which could allow flames or sparks that could result in a fire.
  4. Enforcement:
  5. Upon notification of suspected outdoor burning the local volunteer fire companies shall respond to the scene and take immediate measures to contain and/or extinguish the fire.
  6. As soon as possible, the Town of Hunter Police Department or other law enforcement agencies shall respond to the scene to investigate the nature of the fire.  The law enforcement officers shall request immediate compliance with this order.
  7. This order does not apply to the following outdoor burning activities:
  8. Firefighting training
  9. Burn operations approved by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation

All outdoor burning of yard trash, household paper products, bonfires, campfires, warming fires, outdoor fire places, chimneys, and cooking fires within said jurisdictions is prohibited unless: 1) authorized by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation; 2) for cooking of food exclusively within a contained gas or charcoal grill.

The setting of fires to any grass, brush or forest covered land, unless authorized by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, shall constitute a violation of the law.

BE IT FURTHER ORDERED, that the purpose of this order is the mitigation of the public safety hazard posed by wildfires during the current dry weather conditions and the limited first responders and human resources to combat potential fires during COVID-19 pandemic by curtailing the practice of outdoor burning, accordingly, this order shall expire five (5) days from the date of this Order and Declaration.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE, the Town Board of the Town of Hunter and the Board of Trustees of The Village of Hunter will hold a joint Public Hearing at 6:30PM on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at the Hunter Town Hall, 5748 Route 23A, Tannersville, New York, to hear public comment on the matter of the Petition filed by 7776 Hunter Realty, LLC and The Paul E. Slutzky Trust regarding the proposed annexation of certain lands into The Village of Hunter identified as Parcel Numbers 164.00-5-2.21, 164.00-5-2.22 and 164.00-5-5.1.

NOTICE TO BIDDERS

Notice is hereby given that the Town of Hunter will accept sealed bids for: Hunter Branch Rail Trail Pedestrian Bridge over the Clove Creek, Town of Hunter, Greene County, New York. The Owner and contracting authority is the Town of Hunter, and the contract will be awarded based upon the lowest qualified bid.

The Town of Hunter will conduct a Site Showing on Tuesday February 15th, 2022 at 10:00am on site. Attendance at the site showing is Mandatory for Contractors intending to submit a bid.

The project proposes to assemble and erect a prefabricated steel truss, supplied by others, on new concrete footings to allow for pedestrian and bike traffic along the trail over Clove Creek. The new footings will be constructed behind existing stone abutment and embankments. Portions of the existing laid up stone wingwalls will be removed and replaced with medium stone fill. There is no existing structure at the site, and the trail will be constructed by others. The contract includes the construction of a temporary access driveway and tree clearing as needed for the construction staging area. Delivery of the truss is anticipated to be in July 2022, and it will be the contractor’s responsibility to coordinate the process for timely assembly and erection upon delivery. There are no DBE and/or M/WBE goals for this project; however use of DBE and M/WBE entities are highly encouraged.

Bid documents may be obtained on or after Tuesday, February 1st, 2022 at no cost from the following website: https://www.nyscr.ny.gov/contracts.cfm or by requesting documents by emailing Creighton Manning Engineering. Questions regarding the Contract Documents should be directed to Creighton Manning Engineering, LLP either through email at: lshort@cmellp.com or by telephone at 518-689-1875. Bidders shall promptly notify Lucas Short of any errors, omissions, conflicts or ambiguity within the Contract Documents within 4 days of bid opening.

Each bid must be accompanied by security in an amount not less than five percent (5%) of the amount of the bid in the form and subject to the conditions provided in the Instructions to Bidders. The attention of Bidders is particularly called to the requirements as to conditions of employment to be observed and minimum wage rates to be paid under this Contract.

Contract will be awarded based upon the lowest qualified bid who complies with the project bid documents. Bids to be considered must be received in a sealed envelope at the Town of Hunter Clerk’s Office by 11:00 AM, local time, on February 22, 2022 at which time and place they will be publicly opened and read aloud. Bids received after the above noted time will not be accepted. All sealed envelopes should be clearly labeled “Hunter Branch Rail Trail Pedestrian Bridge over the Clove Creek.” The sealed bids shall include the completed Bid Form, Non-Collusive Bidding Certification (as required by chapter 956 of the Laws of New York State), and Bid Bond.

Seasonal Road Closures

Due to weather related delays, the Platte Clove Mountain road in the Town of Hunter, also known as the back mountain, will remain closed until April 29, 2022. The approximate time to re-open the on the 29th is 3pm.

Scheduled reopening will be weather permitting.

Public Notice – Collection of Taxes

TAKE NOTICE, that I, the undersigned, Collector of Taxes of the Town of Hunter, Greene County, New York, have duly received the tax roll and warrant for the collection of taxes for the year 2022, and that I will receive taxes as follows:

Payments accepted at the Town Hall, 5748 Rte. 23A, Tannersville, NY Monday through Friday 8AM-1PM and 2PM-4PM. Payments also accepted at the Bank of Greene County (Tannersville Branch), during the penalty free period only, during normal lobby and drive-thru business hours. All payments made by mail must be postmarked by the last day of the month due.

TAKE FURTHER NOTICE: Taxes may be paid on or before January 31, 2022, without charge or interest. On taxes remaining unpaid after January 31, 2022, there shall be added one percent for February or the remainder thereof; two percent for March; three percent for April; four percent for May; five percent for June; six percent for July; at which time the return of unpaid taxes is made by the collector to the County Treasurer pursuant to law.
