Town of Hunter Awarded $1.25 Million in State Funding for New Highway Garage Project
Hunter, NY — The Town of Hunter is proud to announce that it has been awarded $1.25 million through the New York State Department of State’s Local Government Efficiency (LGE) Grant Program. This award — the highest among all grant recipients statewide — will help fund a portion of the Town’s planned new highway garage facility, a critical project that will replace the Town’s aging and deteriorating existing structure.
“This is an incredible day for the Town of Hunter,” said Town Supervisor Sean Mahoney. “This grant represents years of planning, teamwork, and advocacy to secure the resources needed to modernize our public works infrastructure. Our highway department and the residents they serve deserve a safe, efficient, and reliable facility that can support the essential work they do every day — from road maintenance to emergency response.”
The new garage will be constructed on the site of the current facility, which has long exceeded its intended service life. Working in collaboration with the Town’s architect and engineering team, the new building will be designed to meet modern operational standards, improve energy efficiency, and enhance the long-term sustainability of the Town’s public works operations.
Supervisor Mahoney added, “On behalf of the Town of Hunter, we are deeply grateful to Governor Kathy Hochul, the New York State Department of State, our partners at River Street Planning and Development, all of our Municipal partners who signed on to our application as well as our Town Board for their support in making this possible.”
The Department of State’s Local Government Efficiency program supports municipalities across New York in improving operations, sharing services, and reducing costs through strategic investment. Governor Hochul’s full announcement of the awards can be found here.
The Town of Hunter will continue to work with its design team in the coming months to finalize plans and move the project toward construction.
